As our pastors are facing tremendous challenges, they need the prayers of the saints to strengthen, encourage, and refresh their vision and joy. This is not a call for just a few, but for the whole church.
Our motivation must be one of love and responsibility.
I am reminded of a battle Israel faced. As long as Moses held his hands up, Israel prevailed. But his hands became heavy and he was growing weary! So Aaron and Hur had him sit on a rock (in rest). Then they positioned themselves one on either side of him and held his hands up to sustain the victory.
We are doing the same thing when we pray and stand with our leadership.
Although our pastors are on the frontline and are targeted by the enemy, God has provided help for them. He asks us to pray for them so that they can be free to train and equip us for the work of the ministry. It is an honour to pray for them. Paul often asked his brethren in earnestness throughout his writings to pray for him.
Romans 15:3, " I beg you brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers for me."
While on mission trips, I was very aware of the prayers of the church for us. Prayer protected us, opened doors for ministry, and strengthened us. When they prayed for us they joined us in ministry.
There was a man named Daniel Nash who went ahead to an area where Charles Finney was to preach and prayed fervently there with a few he could gather for weeks before Finney arrived. This equipped Finney to preach and opened the hearts of the people to hear and respond to the gospel.
So, Father, we lift our pastors up to you and pray a tight 360 wall of protection around them so that nothing will discourage or sidetrack them in the call to pastor us and accomplish all that you ask of them. We bless them and their families and thank you for them .
We are also to pray for one another as Ephesians 6:18 teaches. Father, bring to mind someone from our church family that needs prayer that they may be lifted up into your presence today, that their needs will be met, and that they will be encouraged.
When we pray for others there is a connection to them in the Spirit. It is God’s love for them expressed through our prayer!
