Humility is often misconnected with quietness or self deprecation. It has nothing to do with either. Being quiet and reserved are great qualities but not tided to humility. To be humble is not about denying or downplaying the gifts you have been given by God. In fact, low self esteem can get in the way of valuing others which is at the core of a humble heart. The other side of the coin is pride, which is in direct competition with humility. Bragging is often a sign of insecurity. I love this quote from Ernest Hemingway “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.   

THINK:  Moses was considered a very humble person. Who is the humblest person you know? What are 3 characteristics of that person’s humility that stand out to you? 

REFLECT: Here are some quotes to contemplate:

  • “These are the few ways we can practice humility: To speak as little as possible of oneself. To mind one's own business. Not to want to manage other people's affairs. To pass over the mistakes of others. To accept being slighted, forgotten and disliked. To be kind and gentle even under provocation. ― Mother Teresa

ACTIVATE: Here is your challenge today. Put into practice the three things above that stood out to you in the humble person you mentioned from above.

  • This will only work if your intentional. Its so easy for us to read this and forget about it as we go about our busy day. Be intentional to practice these qualities you admired in another.

PRAY/COMMIT: Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

” Lord, Today I choose to practice Humility. Just like I choose my clothes in the morning I choose to put on the characteristics of Humility until it becomes apart of me.
